To open up the small dark snug into the kitchen/dining area creating an open plan kitchen/dining/living using a small budget.

Part of the wall, which separated the snug, was taken out to open the space up into the kitchen/dining area. This immediately filled what was a small dark room into an exciting, open plan, light and airy space for the whole family to enjoy together. The whole ceiling was plastered and painted a matt white together with matt white walls giving an overall calming, tranquil feel.

My client’s had a tight budget so we decided to keep most of the original layout, rather than a total refit of units; we changed all the cupboard doors. Two corner cupboards where removed opening up the wall space and replaced with white chunky floating shelves. The central cupboard was also removed, this created more floor space for bar stools to sit under the new breakfast bar.  By changing the worktops and appliances and adding the White Gloss door fronts completely transformed the look and feel of the kitchen. The White Gloss gave the kitchen a contemporary feel and reflected light into the space.

The original white tiles where kept but we added a cooker splash back and following the line of the Butchers Block worktop, with a High Gloss Black Glass border creating a dramatic contrast with the white.  The Wood Butchers Block work surface gave the space warmth and continued over onto floor to create the breakfast bar.  The American Black Gloss Fridge Freezer was the main luxury item and sat under the bespoke made to measure wine rack.

Black and White is a classic combination and stands the test of time; it looks good with almost any accent colour, which can be added with the use of accessories. The floor chosen was a beautiful dark oak wood, picking out the dark wood tones in the Butchers Block Work surface gave the whole space a harmonious balance.

Following the Black and White scheme through to the open plan living area with a family gallery on the far wall, personalizing the area with memorable images.  A black leather sofa sat opposite the TV, a contemporary white glass topped side table was added and in contrast, a collection of family glassware on a painted white antique table completed the finished look.
